Minutes for meeting of NNJM

When: Sunday, May 11, 2014
Where: 71 Becker Avenue, Rochelle Park, NJ (Angela's home)
Who attended: Robert Curtis, Angela Daidone, Bill Holzmann, Juliette Holzmann

Bob called the meeting to order at 12:18 p.m. The meeting scheduled for Feb. 9, 2014, did not take place due to failure of a quorum. By unanimous consent over the internet, the Executive Committee agreed to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as well as other issues to be discussed, including this meeting date/time/place.

Local secretary's report

a. Bob stated that there has been no activity to date by Richard Smith, who had been formerly approved as the Gifted Children Program Coordinator. There was interest by another party but she is not a Mensa member and therefore cannot serve in that capacity.

b. Bob also stated that the ExComm, via internet, approved Miriam's expenditures for tables and other testing expenditures.

Treasurer's report

Bill presented the treasurer's report, which included the current budget, savings account and expected expenditures/revenue. Among the issues discussed were the renewal of the domain name, reimbursement of Miriam's testing expenses, Nisha's essay/scholarship expenses (not yet submitted) and updated documentation for our bank account. Bill said he will work on contacting our scholarship winner for a presentation of the check and possible a photo op.

IMprint editor's report

Juliette repeated that she will happily accept editorial contributions to fill the newsletter pages. Angela said she will check with a website she is writing for about using her twice- monthly column in the newsletter. Juliette also proposed combining the July/August issue of IMprint due to her scheduling conflict this summer.

Old business

Keith was not in attendance so we did not discuss at length the lecture series and proposed purchase of magnets that had been previously on the agenda. We also discussed the possibility of having the Coffee Fundraiser (in Maywood) in the fall, as the spring dates did not work out as planned.

New business

We set a tentative date for the annual picnic the proposed date is Sunday, August 10 with a rain date of August 17. Bill is going to check with the county about securing permits for the same spot as last year. We also had an inquiry from a party who wished to take the Mensa test but could not afford the testing fee and subsequent membership fees. Bob said he was going to look into whether National had any provisions for this kind of situation. The consensus was to check with National instead of taking this on within our chapter.

Angela moved to adjourn the meeting, with Bill seconding the motion. Meeting was adjourned at 1:12 p.m.
