Region 1 Roundup
Hello fellow Mensans. For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Lisa Maxwell, and as of July 1st I will be your Region 1 representative to the American Mensa Board. The Regional Vice Chair's (RVC) responsibilities are twofold, as expressed in the AMC Handbook:
"One aspect of American Mensa's governing body (the AMC) is that all officers are directors, and vice versa. This sometimes creates tension, because you have two roles to fulfill. You must carry out the specific functions of your office, and at the same time you are expected to maintain a broader perspective and participate in the determination of policy, based on the long-range best interests of American Mensa as a whole."
During my tenure I will do my best to fill both roles.
How can I help you or your chapter? Let me know at
What's happening in your area? Send me your local group's special event notices or news and I'll share them with the rest of the region.
As you are likely reading this in late June or early July, the Annual Gathering (AG) is upon us. This year it is being held in Louisville, KY, home of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Did you know that the replica of Babe Ruth's 34-inch Louisville Slugger bat weighs 68,000 pounds, is made of steel, stands 120 feet tall and is located at Louisville Slugger Museum? Or that 90% of the United States' disco balls are produced in Louisville each year? Come to Louisville to experience its unique charm.
I do hope to see many of you at the AG. Please introduce yourselves and try to attend our Region 1 events' A kick-off event (Wednesday July 1st, time/place TBD at the time of this writing), and the RVC Meet & Greet on Friday, July 3 at 9:00AM.
This is your Mensa - make the most of it!
