News from National:
The new database system at the national office was implemented in November. If you have not been to the website (us.mensa.org) recently, please note that when you login to the member-only area, you will need to use your primary email address to do so (your member number will no longer work) and you will be asked to do a (one-time) password reset. If you did not have an email address in your contact information prior to the new system's implementation, you will need to add one. You may call the national office to request assistance to update your contact information with the new email address. They can be reached at 817-607-0060.

The next AMC (national board of directors) meeting will be held on December 10, 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of the items on the agenda is a proposed dues increase. Due to recent changes to the AML bylaws voted in by the membership, the process for implementing a dues increase is as follows:
Section XI (8): Annual dues may only be changed by the adoption of a motion passed by the American Mensa Bylaws of American Mensa Committee at two consecutive regular meetings. At the first meeting, the AMC shall adopt a motion in the form "Effective (date), the dues rate for single-year memberships shall be $(amount) per year" with the date and amount specified. The motion shall be published in the meeting agenda at least 30 days prior to the first meeting, may not be contingent on other conditions, shall specify a date at least 90 days and not more than one year in the future, and shall be accompanied by a description of the financial impact of the motion. At the second regular meeting, held not less than 60 days after publication of the motion as passed at the first regular meeting, an identical motion shall be adopted, provided that it is listed in the meeting agenda published at least 30 days prior to the second meeting. The motion shall not be subject to amendment or modification, shall not be tabled nor referred to committee, and shall not be subject to the provisions of section VII(2)(b). Rev. 6/9/2015

Did you know…?
In odd-numbered years, American Mensa conducts its election of officers for the American Mensa Committee (the board of directors): Chair, First Vice-Chair, Second Vice-Chair, up to 10 Regional Vice-Chairs, the Secretary and Treasurer. All candidates will run as petition candidates, since the membership voted to do away with the nominating committee during the last election/bylaws amendments cycle.

The 2017 national board election will be primarily electronic- (web-) based. Members should verify that the email address on file is current. Members without an email address on file will receive a paper ballot in the mail. If you have an email address but need to receive election materials by mail instead, review your election material preferences, checking the option to receive those materials in print.
