September (from Latin septem, "seven") was originally the seventh of ten months on the
oldest known Roman calendar, with March (Latin, Martius,) the first month of the year
until perhaps as late as 153 BC. After the calendar reform that added January and
February to the beginning of the year, September became the ninth month, but retained its
name. It had 29 days until the Julian reform, which added a day.
The 7th annual picnic at Van Saun Park was a great success in my opinion. Bill
Holzmann did a great job of organizing it and grilling franks and hamburgers! Many
Mensans got to meet and greet one another. Particularly noteworthy was the large number
of young Mensans present. The committee estimated that at least 60 members were
present at some time during the day. Thanks, Bill, for another great event.
Activities for our gifted youth are ongoing. Check with Stephanie Janssens on Facebook
