September 2015

This month was originally named September since "septem" is seven in Latin, and because it was the seventh month in the original ten-month Roman calendar under Romulus in 753 BC, when March was the first month of the year. About 700 BC it became the ninth month when January and February were added to the year before March by King Numa Pompilius.

Our big event in August was our Picnic on August 9th in Van Saun Park at Pavilion I (Note: last year it was at Pavilion F.) Many came and brought family and friends. Lisa Maxwell, the new RVC for region 1, RVC1@us.mensa.org drove down from New Hampshire to meet and greet us. This event was organized by Bill Holzmann, our treasurer, whom we all thank for his hard work preparing and cooking.

NNJ Mensa has some news this month!

On August 9th, the Executive Committee met before the Picnic. The minutes are available in the Minutes section of our website, http://www.nnjmensa.org. Lisa Maxwell, our Region 1 Vice Chairman, was present and asked us to remind our group members that they are welcome at all the activities of other groups, particularly those closeby.
